Trump doesn’t care about people with disabilities — but ADA lawsuits keep coming.
The video is this post in audio.
I’m M. LaVora Perry, Founder and Publisher of The East Cleveland Narrator and ecnarrator.org. I was diagnosed with bipolar two disorder in 2010. Medical professionals classify it as a disability, even though to people who don’t know me well, it might not look like one. My most difficult symptom is depression. Sometimes it’s hard to stay focused and concentrate. At those times, reading a lot of text is hard. So being able to watch a video and listen instead makes information easier to take in. But, also being able to re-read something — to return to it and gain understanding at my own pace — is helpful.
My goal is to produce ecnarrator.org content in multiple formats — text, images, audio, and video. Right now I’m publishing the website by myself. So I can’t always do it, but I try my best.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for residents with accessibility needs are on my mind when I create content for ecnarrator.org. If anything on here falls short of your needs please let me know.
What the ADA Law Requires
In April 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice issued a final rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act requiring all state and local websites and mobile applications to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Version 2.1, Level AA. This standard covers things like: adding descriptive text to images for users who can’t see them; including captions on videos for users who can’t hear them; and making sites easy to use for people who can’t operate a mouse or who use screen readers. These aren’t just nice things to have. They are civil rights.
Where Things Stand Under Trump
The Trump administration has softened its stance on making official websites comply with ADA requirements. But private lawsuits still get filed. More than 8,600 ADA-related lawsuits were filed in 2025 alone.
I’m going to keep doing my best to keep ecnarrator.org in line with ADA guidelines, even though it’s a volunteer website, not an official one. I’m always looking for residents who want to help make ecnarrator.org the best it can be for us. If you’d like to volunteer — and learn website skills you can use for your personal projects — email me at ecnarrator@gmail.com or text me at 216-925-0215.
