I don’t remember writing this. I vaguely remember the meeting. I’ll never forget the girl.

I wrote this letter to a white female Ph.D. who was the second leader at a function I attended recently. At the event, I challenged the leading speaker — another white Ph. D. — when he described an incident in which he was able to resolve a situation with a white authority figure simply by having a respectful conversation with that person. I told him that the communication method he used could have easily led to an unfavorable outcome had he been black.
